Halloween

Masks are great. I love seeing them, being scared by them, wearing them (sort of) but most of all I enjoy making them. Here are a couple I've made. I started with a plaster mold of my face and poured liquid latex in, a layer at a time, making sure each layer was thoroughly dry before adding the next to build it up. After a couple of layers had been added and dried, I peeled them out, cut out the eyes and nose and adhered them to a dummy base mask. I then painted it and added a shoelace to make it wearable, and here are the results...

Apoctopus is born!

Apoctopus is the brain... child? creature? abomination? of myself and Jason Foster.

When we met in '07 our minds merged subconsciously and fornicated - the gestation period lasted about 3 years, then out popped baby Apoctopus. We were ecstatic!

What we didn't realize though, was that the rate of maturation among Apoctopi is a mere matter of weeks - and that they are prone to developing narcissistic behavior, a strong divinity complex and delusions of grandeur. We have become the willing puppets of this young (yet so very old) monster - we breathe because the tentacle allows it. We eat because the tentacle allows it. We do not bathe, the tentacle will not allow it. We make the music that the Apoctopus commands. We obey - ALL HAIL APOCTOPUS!

My Pet Zombie

Meet Frank, my new drummer and the newest edition of the family. He's made from an old styrofoam mannequin head, liquid latex, acrylic paints, sculpey and an old ping-pong ball, but he looks like 100% compostable materials (almost)!

Expect to see more of Frank...

Electronic Music/Synths/Geeky

Being that I'm a musician, and of late very interested/curious about electronic music and instruments - here are a few sites I frequent. Very cool as far as finding out what's new in the world of electronic instruments, midi, synthesizers or synth specs etc.

Also, the geek in me enjoys reading Wired articles online - and laughing at the lunacy that goes on in the comments section following each article.

Tim Burton Exhibit at the MOMA

While in NY I also had the opportunity to check out the Tim Burton exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art. That, for me, was definitely one of the highlights of the visit (aside from the Daniel/Genesis show). It featured pages of his sketchbooks from the last 30 years or so, and several props from his films, character sketches, sculptures, etc. For any Tim Burton fan, this is a must-see. Unfortunately, picture taking was not allowed once inside the actual exhibit, but I'm posting a couple from the lobby and entrance.

Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is... A Love Story

I was in NY over the weekend and saw an amazing art show at the Renwick Gallery titled "Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is... A Love Story". It's a split show between Daniel Albrigo and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge of Throbbing Gristle. Daniel's oil paintings are very nicely done and perfectly compliment the multi-media pieces of Genesis. In addition to the 10 or so oil paintings by Daniel, he's also done a limited edition of Neon signs. The work shown by Genesis consisted of several photographs, a couple of mixed media pieces, a ring with a cast molar and a new book. Overall, a great show. Opening night was packed. Congratulations Daniel and Genesis!
